Hi Karen,

I was in Peru last May and June. I'm not sure where you're going next, but enjoy all the high quality food you can in Lima. We went to Nasca and then into the Highlands via a 12-hour train. Then to Cusco and Machu Picchu. Then to Puno and Lake Titicaca. By the time we got to Lake Titicaca, LOVED PERU, but in the smaller towns the menus are heavily starch-based. Especially in the highlands and Lake Titicaca. I had some wonderful Italian-Peruvian food in Lima. Apparently, they do great Chifa (Peruvian version of Chinese food), too. My dh and I had some at a little place in Nasca. His was great, mine was bland. Our little Nasca hotel had a great menu, but because it was one of the first places we visited, we didn't realize, unless you're eating only in high-end places (and even then!) how the food would change. I had beef in the restaurant of a 5-star hotel in the Sacred Valley, and it tasted like it had been boiled. Very bland.

Eat, eat, EAT in Lima.

Oh, and check out the cherry Globo-pops. They saved us when we could not stand to eat more rice or the thousands of varieties or potatoes available.

Thank you Karen I am really enjoying reading your posts. The images of the city, the fog and the sun setting were beautiful and I loved that you found cats. VBG
Good idea about the hiking boots and I hope that you heal quickly. Safe and happy travels.

I hope your blisters heal quickly! Yikes! No fun. And I snorted coffee through my nose when I read "She has to wear a llama forever." What an hysterical mistranslation. LOL.

And the cats! How wonderful they are cared for. Very much like the cat population in the Protestant Cemetery in Rome and at the Coliseum.

Safe travels my friend! And no llamas to sit on your head!
