The Memory Palace
A seasoned detective investigates a case that forces her to confront the one thing she can’t solve: her mother’s fading memory—and the truth she may not be ready to face.
Not every mystery gets solved.
Not every wound heals.
Not every memory stays buried.
Detective Jean McCall built her career on precision. Inside her mind, she stores every case in a carefully constructed memory palace—every detail catalogued, every clue filed in its place.
Major Crimes celebrates her as one of its most effective investigators.
Until the case that defies investigative logic.
When a brutal attack leaves an elderly man murdered and a young survivor suffering amnesia, Jean lands an investigation with no clear motive and no reliable truth.
Assigned an untested new partner and undermined by a former colleague determined to see her fail on a case, Jean must fight to hold her ground at work. At home, dementia dismantles her mother’s memories piece by piece—taking parts of Jean’s past with her.
When the young survivor finally speaks, his story shifts with every telling. The truth he reveals pulls Jean into a dark world of trauma, missing children, buried secrets, and the terrifying fragility of memory itself.
As the case turns personal, Jean’s once solid her memory palace begins to fracture.
Because memory isn’t evidence.
It isn’t truth.
Sometimes, it’s the most dangerous belief we have.
A gripping, character-driven psychological thriller perfect for fans of Loreth Anne White and Michael Connelly as well as readers of dark police procedurals, unreliable narrators, and emotionally charged crime fiction.
